Owner/Director/Lead Teacher Miss Alana
Hello, my name is Alana. I have been teaching for over fifteen years now and I couldn't imagine doing anything else! I have worked with ages 2-12 years in both private and community school settings. I am always searching for new adventures and ideas to explore with children in my classroom. I began my educational journey through UCC in Roseburg Oregon and I am currently partnering with my local Child Care Resources Office, Portland State and Western Oregon University to continue my educational training.
I believe every child is unique and has special gifts to share with the world! By creating a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and caring environment we can allow each child to grow and explore at their own pace. I believe parent-teacher relationships are the foundation for a healthy learning experience. My staff and I work very closely with families to ensure all needs are being met and resources explored. The individual attention and collaboration with our families has created a family oriented environment that helps our children thrive!
Owner/Director/Teacher
Hello my name is Mel, although in the classroom I am known as Mr. Melie! During the warmer months you can often find the children and I in the school's garden or attending to the numerous empty bird feeders throughout the yard. Remarkably the feeders are in need of re-filling almost daily. This is a job the children eagerly await.
Physical activities, play, and just being outdoors is so important for children. Through exploration and play the children's personalities emerge and I am allowed to glimpse into "their world." Being able to see each child's individual personality helps me to be more attentive to their needs and personal learning styles.
I began my career path knowing I wanted to work directly with the public, helping them. I have always enjoyed personal interactions with people and conversing with others from all walks of life, of all different ages. I guess you might say I have the "gift of gab!"
My initial path was set on becoming a high school teacher either in psychology or history. However, I was presented with an opportunity to become a nursing assistant and I just couldn't pass this up. For the past 23 years I have happily continued in the medical field. I found that the personal connections made with my patients truly made a difference in their recoveries. This has been a very rewarding career, but I was ready to return to my original passion for teaching.
Every day in the classroom is exciting and new, with new possibilities. Finding those "teachable moments" are a personal favorite of mine. Respect for one another and the things around us are very important here in the classroom. By demonstrating respect when speaking with each other and getting down to the same level we promote this character trait on a daily basis.
